BBM Covid Update June 2020
Despite lockdown, it has been a busy few months here at BBM. Our offices remain physically closed but our solicitors (except a very small number who are unable to work because of childcare obligations) are now all at work (albeit from their homes) and ready to help our clients progress their transactions and provide any advice needed.
Here is what has been happening in each department:-
Government advice is that house moves be delayed until phase 2 of lifting lockdown restrictions has begun. However, at this point preparations are being made to begin progressing transactions and we are helping many of our clients to get ready to move early in Phase 2. Property transactions which don’t involve the use of movers or inspections by estate agents and surveyors have often been able to continue.
Commercial property work at BBM has continued at a pace throughout lockdown. There have been leases to be renegotiated and properties big and small to be sold and purchased. We are always happy to discuss the needs of our commercial clients if you are contemplating as new sale, purchase or lease.
The buying and selling of business and their assets has continued, as has need for our clients to rework, review and amend Terms and Conditions and contracts in light of the COVID outbreak. Building the correct contractual structure when you are working in new and challenging times is very important and we are here to help our clients with this every step of the way.
Our employment team has been busy throughout lockdown advising employers and employees on Furlough Agreements, Settlement Agreements and redundancy. We are here to help with any issues you have either as an employer or employee in today’s ever changing employment market.
It has been a busy time for our family law team who have been assisting in resolving child contact issues arising from lockdown as well as advising on separation agreements and divorce actions. If you need any family law advice at this potentially trying time in domestic life we are happy to assist.
We have seen a big demand for Wills and Power of Attorneys and executory advice in recent months. We may not be able to meet with you in person at moment but we can still advise on and provide drafts Wills and Powers of Attorneys for signing. A change to law society rules means we are now able to notarise documents via a video link, which can assist with this process.
The courts are now allowing urgent cases to progress and our litigation team are very busy working for the best outcomes for our clients. If you have an emerging contentious issue the sooner you seek advice the more likely it is that a satisfactory outcome for all can be achieved. Our litigation team are happy to have no obligation initial discussions about your issue.
Our specialist insolvency and restructuring team are experts in their field and have remained busy throughout lockdown .There are big changes coming in the world of insolvency and restructuring. BBM are very happy to advise Directors on their options in what we are aware is a difficult time for many companies.
