Eric is BBM’s Managing Director. He is a well-known commercial lawyer who specialises in litigation and strategic corporate advisory work. He is the principal legal adviser to a number of companies and organisations across Scotland.
Eric is the adviser of choice to many Insolvency Practitioners, particularly those with appointments based in the north of Scotland. He is consulted on wide-ranging issues arising from liquidations, administrations, sequestrations and trust deeds. He has provided training for various firms of IPs and has a particular interest in insolvency litigation.
Eric has a particular interest and is well regarded in the field of cross border insolvency. As a result he is instructed to provide advice to foreign lawyers on insolvency related matters. Eric advises on disputes arising from many areas of law, but is particularly known for his work in leading cases in Insolvency, Property Litigation, Professional Negligence, and Contract Disputes.
He is also increasingly instructed to defend clients in regulatory criminal prosecutions. Eric regularly contributes to seminars and legal periodicals on a wide variety of subjects. He also leads the BBM team advising Trusts and Charities.
Eric is a member of the Insolvency Lawyers Association, the Association of Business Recovery Professionals (R3) and INSOL International and is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in Insolvency Law.
Eric was also a member of the Scottish Civil Justice Council between May 2013 and May 2016.
Outside of work: Eric lives in Wick and is married with four children. He is a Christian, and much of his spare time is involved in activities with his local church, including organising children’s activities, and preaching. Otherwise, Eric enjoys spending time reading, and spending time with the family.
